Can You Reduce The Risk Of Having A Heart Attack By Taking A Vacation Or Holiday?

Author: Dorothy Yamich
Source: articlesbase.com

Recent research has shown that if people go on vacations every year they can reduce their risk of developing a serious disease. Stress in the workplace as well as at home can effect a person’s mental and physical health in so many ways.  Whatever relaxing holidays you feel like taking, from vacations at all inclusive resorts or exotic beach vacations, to pampered luxury cruises and cruise tours, you can dramatically lower your risk of heart attacks and many other life threatening medical conditions. The catch is that you need to take at least one holiday every year. Just as the cumulative effect of not taking vacations can make you sick over time, conversely, taking a two to three week vacation each year can help you stay well.  It appears that the stress of our daily lives caused by a number of factors may be contributing to this phenomenon. As a result of this recent economic down turn, the workplace is probably the main reason or factor.  One of the primary reasons that this is happening is this electronic age we live in where we are so tied to our jobs that we feel we’re at work even when we are not even there. Quite literally, we are only a phone call, an email, or text message away from our job.  Many people have the feeling that they’re on a treadmill that’s speeding up and they can’t seem to get off. They may be working as hard as they can to try and be successful in their own business, or they could be constantly concerned about how long their job will be there for them in these recessionary times. It’s the worry and uncertainty that can be all-consuming and can make people very ill over time.  This accounts for tremendous stress, trouble sleeping, depression, and a host of other stress related medical conditions. Even not eating properly, or drinking too much coffee or alcohol can make the problem worse.  It seems obvious many families have had to cut back on, or even eliminate taking vacations completely because of the cost of travel, although the costs of many holidays have actually dropped over the last number of years.  However, some vacations can be less expensive than others. Here are some holidays that may not break the bank.  Perhaps the most relaxing holiday that you can take is a luxury cruise. It can also be the best value for your vacation travel dollar for a number of reasons.  First of all, you are basically living on a floating hotel resort. You will enjoy all of the benefits and amenities of hotels and resorts all rolled up into one neat, affordable, no hassle vacation. If you have never been on a cruise before, maybe now is the time that you should have this great experience.  Another great benefit is that you are in control of the amount of activities you really want to participate in. Or, you can just veg out and relax in a comfortable deck chair in the wonderfully warm sunshine and take a refreshing swim in the pool next to you. You don’t even have to get up to get another drink or some delicious appetizers as deck waiters are always there at your beckon call. What an incredible stress free holiday!  You don’t even have to unpack and repack your travel luggage again and again as you sail to ports located in different cities or towns along the way. All you have to do is enjoy all the amenities on board.  The only other cost to consider is a cheap flight to the port where you can board your dream cruise.  However, if you live reasonably close to a cruise line port you can probably drive there and save a significant amount of money. Even if you have to stay overnight at an inexpensive motel half way to your cruise line port, it probably would still be cheaper than airfares, especially for a couple, or a family.  Check this list below to determine if you live close to any of these following cruise line port cities in the U.S. The list in in alphabetical order for both the East and the West coasts of the United States.  The cruise ship ports on the East and the Gulf coasts of the United States. in alphabetical order are Baltimore, MD, Boston, MA, Bayonne (Cape Liberty), NJ, Charleston, SC, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Galveston, TX, and Houston, TX, Jacksonville, FL, Miami, FL, Mobile, AL, New Orleans, LA. New York City, NY, Norfolk, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Port Canaveral, FL, Port Everglades, FL, and Tampa, FL.  The ports on the West coast of the United States. in alphabetical order are Astoria, OR, Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego, and San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Seward and Whittier, AK.  And in the aloha State of Hawaii, the ports of Honolulu and Maui.  For Canadians there are only two major cruise ship ports. They are located in Montreal, Quebec, in the East, and in Vancouver, B.C., on the West coast.  All inclusive vacations at many wonderful resorts in places such as Mexico and the Caribbean are also among the best value for your holiday travel dollar. These vacations include your food and drinks.  Other money saving travel deals are cheap vacation packages which usually cover your flight and hotel or resort accommodation. However your food and drinks are not normally included  Enjoying a two to three week relaxing vacation each and every year that you are employed in the workforce is one of the best prescriptions to help you maintain your good health.

Get Objective Advice About Holidays

The way in which we book holidays has been changing over time and yet many of us find that we’re spending a lot of money, without ever having much information upon which to base our buying decisions. We might think that things should be improving with more of us now booking holidays online, but it sometimes seems like we need a lot more information.

So how can we go about finding it? One of the biggest problems that we have is that we’re often relying on travel companies to provide us with advice and information. This has always been the case and many of us realise that we once relied simply on holiday brochures and on the advice of travel agent staff.

Sometimes they would have known very little about particular resorts or accommodation. This was not surprising – we couldn’t possibly have expected that every single member of staff would have stayed in each hotel. That simply wouldn’t have been possible. Similarly, the information found in brochures was often lacking.

One real problem was that brochures and shop assistants were basically there to try and encourage us to book a holiday. This meant that they were unlikely to let us know about any of the negatives associated with booking any such holidays. Have things changed now that many of us are making holiday bookings via the internet?

The answer probably depends on how you approach such bookings. Far too many people still rely on information that’s presented to them by travel companies. That’s a real shame, particularly since any such information is really likely to be subjective and will be all about trying to encourage you to make a booking. It’s unlikely to be the honest, objective information that you’re really looking for.

The latter type of information is available and it is possible to find out – it just involves a little more digging around. There are a number of websites, including the likes of Trip Advisor, that allow consumers to tell others about their experiences.

You should use such websites for your own advantage, taking the opportunity to research destinations before making a booking. By doing so, you can get an honest appraisal of the place that you’ll be going to, which can help you to avoid some holiday nightmares.

Tour Operators Travel Guide

Author: Julie Bowman
Source: ezinearticles.com

Planning a vacation can be almost as stressful as working, ironically. But in today’s world there are many ways to plan and actually book your vacation. The best way is to book directly with tour operators in the country which you are visiting. Why is this method of booking a vacation so great?

Well, for starters, booking directly with the operators operating in your country of respite is so great because they actually live at the location, and can give you all kinds of great information on the best places to visit, sometimes giving you information about places you hadn’t even seen in brochures that are still spectacular. This is knowledge you can’t glean from books, magazines, or a couple of casual visits to the location.

What’s more, these operators are the direct agencies that actually handle the tours. Booking directly with them means you don’t have to pay a travel agent’s commission. Even better, you’re actually supporting the local communities of places you visit because these agencies work in the local economy! A stronger local economy for your destination means a better return trip if you decide to go back one day.

Perhaps the greatest reason you should look to book directly with tour operators, however, is the amazing ease that they provide in getting your vacations rolling. Instead of navigating through travel agencies and looking for the best deals that you can find on a vacation tour that may only slightly resemble the tour that you want, you can directly plan and coordinate a personal tour and get your vacation rolling! You won’t have to worry about inconveniencing a group or trying to find a travel agency that fits all your most wanted destinations in one tour when you work with local companies.

With all the benefits of booking directly with tour operators, it’s a surprise that anyone still relies on travel agencies at all.

When planning your trip make use of some of the various planning resources to create your trip easily, such as guide books, brochures and online guides such as http://www.puretravel.com/Pages/WhyGoDirect which has lots of destination advice, tips, photos and ideas on what to do and where to go. Getting the Right Holiday Deal

Author: Keith Barrettbr

Going on holiday isnt all about heading out to an exotic, tropical island and spending two weeks in the sunshine on a beautiful beach. Although that may sound like an alluring prospect for many, we all have different ideas when it comes to holidays and out favourite destinations. Getting the right location for our holiday can be tricky, but its likely to be very important.

With most of us leading fairly hectic lives, getting away for a while isnt just about going somewhere warm. Its also about relaxing and being able to spend some time without having the concerns associated with work. Its the importance of the break that makes it vital that we make the right choices. This all sounds sensible enough, but its not easy to do when youre on a limited budget.

If youre fortunate enough to not need to worry about money then this may not be a constraint that youre familiar with. Most of us, however, will be well aware that our travel plans are likely to be limited by financial concerns. Fortunately, a lack of available money doesnt mean that you have to forget about having your perfect holiday. It just means that you need to be a bit more clever when you come to book.

To begin with, you should probably forget about taking a trip to the travel agents shop. Thats simply because most of the very best and cheapest deals are to be found online. If the cheapest deals are online then thats clearly where you should be looking. Youll find that the internet allows you to compare prices more easily, highlighting the best deals for you and your family.

Always remember that you should be looking for a holiday thats right for your family. Dont worry about other peoples ideas of perfect travel destinations. A holiday is a very personal experience and its important that you choose a location thats right for you.

Be as flexible as you can in terms of your travel arrangements too. If you can avoid travelling at the most popular times then youll find that you can get a lot more for your money.

Travel Advice For Visitors to the Philippines

Author: Elmo Populousbr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Most of us know that it is an absolute must, when going abroad, to buy travel insurance, or to take out an annual travel insurance policy each year. And most people wouldnt think about leaving the country without it, acknowledging its importance should the unexpected occur. But what people are less aware of is the possibility that the travel insurance policy that they have purchased may not cover them for all eventualities – and not all of these exemptions are freak occurrences. Some may be fairly innocuous activities, such as scuba diving or backpacking.

The Philippines is a wonderful tropical country, with a fantastically diverse array of culture, wildlife, and landscape scattered across the 7,107 islands that make up the Philippine archipelago. It is true that of the 2million annual visitors to the country, most enjoy a holiday free of incidents. But, as with almost any country in the world, there are dangers individual to the Philippines that travellers need to be aware of before they go.

The countries in the tropics are simultaneously favoured and damned by their location on the landscape. The Philippines sits on the edge of the Pacific Ring of Fire, where seismic disturbances are common. This accounts for the many active volcanoes around the country, although with current scientific equipment it is unlikely that an eruption would not be predicted in good time. Of greater importance is that the country sits inside the Western Pacific tsunami belt, which leads to roughly nineteen hits per annum. It is advised that travellers do not visit the Philippines in the rainy season between June and November, the months when tsunamis strike. If, for whatever reason, someone was to visit in these months, they need to make sure that their travel insurance covers them for the effects of natural disasters, or catastrophes, as they are sometimes known. Exemptions such as this are likely to affect remuneration for displacement expenses more than medical care. Also, things like backpacking may need dedicated backpackers insurance.

The other main unexpected exemption is for sports such as scuba diving. The Philippines is one of the worlds top diving destinations, so again, make certain that the policy covers this. Some companies even offer adventurous sports policies, which specifically provide for the eventualities associated with risky sports. Generally, it does not cost much to take out additional cover, and this is sometimes the easiest way to make sure an existing policy provides adequate cover.

Cheap All Inclusive Holidays

Author: Harley Patterson
Source: ezinearticles.com

Does all inclusive holidays mean a cheaper holiday? Well in theory they should cost less since you are prepaying for everything, but quite often you may find a cheap all inclusive holiday may turn out to be expensive. To make sure you get all you are paying for you should make sure you ask about the following points before you book you holiday.

1. Every hotel and destination is different and have different rules for their all inclusive option. To be certain of what your hotel will offer be sure to scrutinise the details before booking, it is too late after you arrive. The minimum you should expect is a selection of the daily breakfast, lunch and dinner complete with all you local drinks.

2. For a cheap all inclusive holiday you will want to have a reasonable amount of time to enjoy the bar menu. A good guide for an All inclusive hotel should have a good range of alcoholic beverages available for at least 12 hours during the day. Ideally the better resorts will have at least one bar open 24 hours. You may have to pay extra for this type of resort, but many times if you wait until a few days before your departure and book the hotel you may be able to strike a deal with your travel agent to upgrade to a better resort.

3. Quite often what costs extra on a holiday is the snacks that have not been accounted for, but make sure whatever you decide to book includes unlimited free 24 hour snacks.

4. Many all inclusive resorts may not include entertainment. For a truly cheap all inclusive holiday makes sure all your daytime and night time entertainment is included in the price. A kids club is a good idea for the young ones; this means you will be able to fully enjoy the facilities without the worries of your young children getting bored.

5. In most all exclusive’s you will be required to wear a wrist band in order for you not to be charged

6. A good healthy guide to remember when you are on holiday in such a large resort with lots of people around, good hygiene is highly recommended. Baby wipes are a good idea to wash your hands before you eat. After all most germs are transmitted from your hands and if you have touched for example the banister on your way into the restaurant and someone has just sneezed into their hands and touched the banister before you, these germs will be transmitted.

Cheap all inclusive holidays are a great way to holiday. The first stop to find such a holiday should be your local High Street travel agent, who will inform you of all the details of your holiday. In the times of the credit crunch choosing this type of holiday will favour tourists wanting to make sure they buy at today’s exchange rate. Many people enjoy this option as it means they do not have to bring much spending money with them.

It is hoped that following this simple article from Cheap All Inclusive Holidays will help and be of assistance to you the traveller and save you money.

Starting Your Cruise Holiday

Author:
Source: articledashboard.com

If you’ve never experienced a cruise holiday getaway, it is a little different than many other methods of travel, so here are some of the things you can expect from this trip:

The ship is bigger than you think

In the past when people went on cruise vacations, the vessels they took were often called floating hotels, but they are even bigger these days. You will not feel like you are on aboard just a transport to a travel destination, but you will feel like you are in a floating city that will be taking you to foreign lands.

Thinking of going for a holiday in a traveling city may seem nice up front, but it may also be a little stressful if you start to get lost in all the mazes of corridors and walkways that are inside these ships. Relax. It’s not like you’re going to take a wrong turn and not make it to your travel destination! You’re ship is going the right way to a new land whether you’re lost or not! Think of all the things the ship has to offer as part of the adventure and enjoy getting to know the ins and outs. You may even find some features about the ship that you will enjoy taking advantage of such as gyms, theaters, or spa areas.

Be comfortable

Remember this is your floating home. You should enjoy all of your stay. If you had a long flight to get to the dock and are tired once you get onboard and ready to go, find your cabin first. You can take a nap, then wake up refreshed and ready to enjoy your holiday. Remember, this is your time to relax and have fun. You’re not going to have fun if you are still stressed out from traveling to get to the ship. One thing to keep in mind is that your luggage will not make it to your room for a few hours after you’ve been onboard. If you are going to want a change of clothes or need any toiletries when you head to the room, you may want to carry those onto the ship with you.

Finding Your Room

When you get onboard you will already know your cabin number, and you should have a map of the ship, but that doesn’t mean you will get your bearings right away. If you are not sure where your cabin is, look for a crewmember. They know the ship like the back of their hands and will be able to quickly and easily point you in the right direction.

Think Compact

Unless you have spent hundreds or thousands of extra dollars on one of the suites aboard the ship, your room will be small. This is not to say it will not have all the amenities you need. You will be amazed at how well they compact everything to fit into one cabin.

You will be given some sort of dining assignment, and often a ship card that is often a key to your cabin and can also be used for credit on board. The dining setup is not set in stone, so if you would like to change your dinner time or table location, ask nicely, and likely it will all be taken care of.
