If you’ve never booked any part of a holiday on the Internet, then it’s about time you considered it. Finding a bargain online is easier than you might think, and you will often find the deals available to be much cheaper than your local travel agent. Such is the value of Internet offers that they’ve spelt a very serious demise for traditional package holiday providers, who have seen their prices undercut. Probably the most important ingredient in making a successful online holiday package is your time and effort, but if you’re looking to book your next holiday, and want to save a few pounds while you scour the web, then take a read of this article for some good tips.

Flights

If you’re planning to holiday somewhere further than Britain or France, thne flying is probably the best option with regard to time and expense. Searching for flights online couldn’t be simpler, with a wide range of single providers, comparison websites and sites that specifically hunt bargains, such as cheap flights provided by Travelzoo. See if you can find a new air route offered by a company too. Companies such as Easyjet and Ryanar regularly open new routes at discount prices.

Travel Insurance

It’s not a legal requirement to get travel insurance when you go abroad, but it will almost certainly give you peace of mind. Often it’s possible to get year round travel insurance through your bank account provider or added onto another insurance package, but make sure this is thoroughly checked before you go away. If you find that you’re not covered, then there are a wide variety of insurers that you can use on the Internet at cheap rates. Take a look at travel insurance from Go Travel to get you started.

Accommodation

Once you’ve booked your flights and travel insurance, you won’t be far off completing a fairly comprehensive package. In fact, the only thing you’ll have left to think about is where you’ll actually stay. Searching for accommodation really depends on what level of luxury you’d like to stay in. If you’re not particularly fussy, or just travelling on a shoe string, then Ebookers comes as a recommended site to look at. Other than that, just merely typing ‘cheap hotels’ into Google and seeing what comes up will be a good starting point. If you get a price through a website, don’t forget to phone the hotel yourself to see if you can haggle a better rate. Hotels will often be able to give you a lower rate minus commission, especially if you’re travelling off-season.

br
Before we begin to discuss the problem in its entirety, I feel it prudent to explain what exactly the European health insurance card (otherwise know as the EHIC) is and how it benefits you the holiday maker.

The EHIC was originally created and introduced around two years ago. The card was to be slowly phased in to replace the E111 form seen as outdated by many. The concept of the card is that it provides access to initial emergency treatment, usually deemed life saving or unavoidable. Under the scheme you will be treated as would any other insured person in the member country. Currently some 30 countries subscribe to the agreement, of which 4 are non EU-member states, namely; Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland (prescribes to the E112, whereby patients awaiting treatment in the UK can be sent abroad if it reduces waiting time).

The scheme covers only this initial treatment and the cost of further treatment in the aid of convalescing will not under usual circumstances be covered. It is important to note that in many countries it is literally just the emergency treatment itself that is covered and not the journey to the hospital in the ambulance, or the hospital bed you will occupy. As you can imagine you could very quickly find yourself amassing a rather large bill. Due to this, travel insurance can be deemed essential. If you are to travel to the United States (where there is no emergency health agreement) you will be charged privately from the word go and could literally find yourself bankrupted by the massive treatment costs. I would normally recommend medical cover in the region of ?2 million when traveling to the USA and a still sizeable sum of ?1 million when traveling in Europe.

Research carried out by moneysupermarket.com shows that 59% of people interviewed still think the E111 form is in place. This is perhaps worrying when you consider that the new card has been in place for a little over 2 years now, meaning potentially millions have traveled without any form of cover. Those of you who have the EHIC should consider some form of travel insurance if you have not already done so as the two aspects work in synergy with each other. Without the EHIC you will have to pay privately for the emergency treatment you require and even with it you will still have to pay for any treatment over and above this.

It is important to remember that holiday insurance also covers you for eventualities such as; theft (holiday money and personal items), cancellation, personal liability and varying other eventualities. It is my hope that after reading this article you will at least consider taking out some form of protection for your next holiday, after all peace of mind is priceless./pbr
br
Each year, thousands of British tourists suffer personal injury and theft when they travel abroad. Their losses run to many millions of pounds. Yet a large number do not have any form of insurance cover, leaving them to foot hospital bills and find the money to replace items such as digital cameras and camcorders.

Of course not much thought is given to these negative aspects when planning for and booking our holiday. Indeed, this is often the last thing on our minds.

By the time you remember to purchase travel insurance or at least recognise a need for it, you may be only days away from the start of your holiday. It is all too easy at this point to purchase the first policy you come across with a decent price tag and sometimes even this goes out of the window in your haste.

So what should you think about when considering travel insurance? The first thing is to be careful when allowing your tour operator to package your holiday insurance alongside your other travel arrangements. More often than not such policies work out much more expensive this way.

You may also find that particular travel agencies/companies are affiliated with one insurer, so you will not receive a competitive quote on your policy, or it may not cover all your precise needs.

When searching for a travel insurance policy you should be careful to look for the features you require. A good policy should provide you with a minimum of ?1m in personal injury or accident cover, baggage cover, theft cover, holiday cancellation cover and public liability cover in case you are sued by a third party.

Using a comparison website can allow you to search through many insurers at once. Indeed just spending 10-15 minutes trawling round a few websites yourself will return enough quotes to allow you to make an educated decision.

To many the main aim is to find a cheap travel insurance policy, whilst this is in theory a good idea and definitely advised if you want to save those pennies, you should never lose sight of the features you require.

Nine times out of 10 you will find that the cheapest quote has the minimum features youre looking for. But you should remember that sometimes it is best to increase the cover in certain areas. A good example being travel to the USA: look to increase the cover for personal injury from ?1m to ?2m, as hospital costs can literally bankrupt you.

Above all, travel insurance affords you peace of mind, the knowledge that you are covered should you fall victim to an accident or have your personal possessions stolen cannot be valued highly enough./pbr
Finding the right insurance to suit your individual needs can be a tricky task. This is especially the case when it comes to over 65 travel insurance.

The fact is that some travel insurance providers are unwilling to insure senior citizens. Their reluctance is based on their assumption that those aged over 65 are more prone to accidents and falling ill whilst on holiday, which is why travellers over 65 can find themselves having to pay as much as three times more than a younger person.

However, dont despair. There are still plenty of insurers and policies to choose from that can offer you a great deal if you shop around and follow the 3 following tips:

1. Dont buy insurance from a travel agent. Although your tour operator or travel agent may offer to arrange insurance for you, they themselves are not insurers. Another insurance company will actually provide the policy, which will probably not be the best for your needs, nor particularly competitively priced. A specialized travel insurance provider is better placed to offer you a better deal.

2. Cut out policy options you are unlikely to need. A lot of standard policies will incorporate cover for things you just will not need, so be sure to remove them. For instance, why pay for the privilege of being covered to bungee jump, scuba dive etc, if you have no intention (or stomach!) to do them?

3. Take out a single-trip policy. Unless you are planning to travel abroad a number of times during a year, you will usually find that a single-trip policy is better suited and better value for travelers aged over 65.

The Internet is a great resource for those looking for the best value over 65s travel insurance. You will find a host of specialist travel insurance providers online that can offer you that piece of mind cover at a very reasonable price. Just take your time, and be sure to get a few quotes to compare.

br
br
Extreme sports holidays have become popular with those who are looking to experience an adrenaline rush during their holidays.

And with a wide variety of different sports to cater for all tastes – from rock climbing and white water rafting to hang gliding and mountain biking – as well as a wide range of terrains on which to explore, theres something for everyone.

However, such exhilaration could turn out to be expensive unless you are prepared for any emergencies. Because of this, it is important to arrange some insurance before you travel, if not to put your mind at ease before you take the plunge or to the skies.

Indeed, travel insurance can be a very useful element to pack as part of your trip, whether youre heading abroad to participate in extreme sports or are embarking on a backpacking excursion. Some of the most common factors that are covered by policies are:

Flight cancellations
Delayed departure or baggage
Medical expenses – these can vary depending on your country of visit
Repatriation as a result of an injury
Theft or damage to personal possessions – including any travel documentation
Legal assistance
Rental car excess and personal liability

This can help to cover you in case of emergencies, but cover can differ depending on the circumstances, so its important to check all details of your policy before you travel.

There are several factors which will affect the cost of your policy, so its best to make your insurer aware of these from the start, including:

Participation in high-risk activities or sports
Pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes or asthma
Travel to countries that are considered high-risk

There are many different travel insurance policies available, each offering varying levels of cover against a range of circumstances, and can be tailored to your travel plans. Backpackers and overseas workers often take out annual travel insurance for the duration of their excursions as it usually works out cheaper than purchasing separate policies for each leg of your trip.

Having an insurance policy in place before you travel can come in handy should you run into difficulties during your trip, and combined with other plans – such as the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) – can help to put your mind at ease and allow you the chance to enjoy your holidays just that little bit more.

br
br
pLooking to embark on an extreme sports holiday and are searching for a target=_new href=http://www.moneysupermarket.com/travelinsurance/ rel=nofollowtravel insurance/a as part of your trip? Go online and search through a range of insurance policies – including a target=_new href=http://www.moneysupermarket.com/travelinsurance/ rel=nofollowannual travel insurance/a for backpackers – to find a deal to suit you and your holiday budget./pbr

Author: Chris Rowlandsbr
br
Weve all heard the horror stories of long nights spent in airport departure lounges due to delayed flights. We remind ourselves that this sort of event happens only rarely and shouldnt cause a problem during the first hours of our holiday. Unfortunately as of late this is no longer the case and many a flight is delayed due to ever tightening airport security procedures.

With the ever continuing onslaught of shower after shower and the resultant flooding, it seems that we have this year been robbed of the summer for which we longed so wholeheartedly. It is no surprise that as a result many of us are turning to fleeing the country for a holiday in sunnier climbs.

This leads us to a huge problem and it doesnt require the use of much imagination to work out what that could be. Delays, more delays and perhaps if were especially lucky even more delays. These delays centre on the tightening of airport security to bring procedure in line with current events and security risks posed by terrorist action.

Many new security checks have been put into place and checking in a flight now takes longer than ever before. This can lead to missed take off slots and lengthy delays awaiting new take off times.

So just how do you avoid having your holiday ruined from the word go? Once thing you should seriously consider is taking out a travel insurance policy. The majority of insurers will compensate for airport delays and cancellation, although you should always check this before committing yourself to a particular policy.

You may argue that the airline should be liable for the delay or cancellation and should therefore pay compensation to the passengers. Unfortunately this is not the case and they are bound by no such liability. Imagine spending the night sleeping on the cold departure lounge floor, now factor in several young children and youre in for a nightmare. Ive experienced this when I was a child and I know what a terrible situation it must have been for my parents.

Now imagine if you had a travel insurance policy that would compensate you and pay for the costs of a delay and possible cancellation resulting from this. It would at least give you peace of mind and make the experience that little bit less stressful; indeed it could prove invaluable if you experience a particularly long delay. The thing is many of us fall victim to the common misconception that an insurance policy can be exorbitantly expensive. This is simply not the case; it is in fact relatively easy to find a cheap travel insurance policy. All that is required is a little time and effort to search out the best policy to suit your needs. Dont fall into the trap of looking for simply the cheapest as this will not give you the coverage you desire. It sounds like common sense but features are often overlooked and price often takes the forefront of the decision process. Consider using one of the new breed of price comparison sites to help you quickly and easily find a policy at a surprisingly cheap price with the all important features./pbr
br
Most of us know that it is an absolute must, when going abroad, to buy travel insurance, or to take out an annual travel insurance policy each year. And most people wouldnt think about leaving the country without it, acknowledging its importance should the unexpected occur. But what people are less aware of is the possibility that the travel insurance policy that they have purchased may not cover them for all eventualities – and not all of these exemptions are freak occurrences. Some may be fairly innocuous activities, such as scuba diving or backpacking.

The Philippines is a wonderful tropical country, with a fantastically diverse array of culture, wildlife, and landscape scattered across the 7,107 islands that make up the Philippine archipelago. It is true that of the 2million annual visitors to the country, most enjoy a holiday free of incidents. But, as with almost any country in the world, there are dangers individual to the Philippines that travellers need to be aware of before they go.

The countries in the tropics are simultaneously favoured and damned by their location on the landscape. The Philippines sits on the edge of the Pacific Ring of Fire, where seismic disturbances are common. This accounts for the many active volcanoes around the country, although with current scientific equipment it is unlikely that an eruption would not be predicted in good time. Of greater importance is that the country sits inside the Western Pacific tsunami belt, which leads to roughly nineteen hits per annum. It is advised that travellers do not visit the Philippines in the rainy season between June and November, the months when tsunamis strike. If, for whatever reason, someone was to visit in these months, they need to make sure that their travel insurance covers them for the effects of natural disasters, or catastrophes, as they are sometimes known. Exemptions such as this are likely to affect remuneration for displacement expenses more than medical care. Also, things like backpacking may need dedicated backpackers insurance.

The other main unexpected exemption is for sports such as scuba diving. The Philippines is one of the worlds top diving destinations, so again, make certain that the policy covers this. Some companies even offer adventurous sports policies, which specifically provide for the eventualities associated with risky sports. Generally, it does not cost much to take out additional cover, and this is sometimes the easiest way to make sure an existing policy provides adequate cover.

If you are thinking about traveling overseas, whether on business or for pleasure and for merely a few days or many months, you should not depart before you have purchased suitable international travel health insurance coverage.

Medical care can be extremely costly abroad and in many countries you will discover that you will be unable to receive medical treatment, even in an emergency, unless you are able to pay for your treatment up front. If you think this is strange then believe me – it is fact.

On one recent vacation I went with a friend to the local hospital in a well known Far Eastern holiday city following a luckily minor road traffic accident in which he sustained a nasty gash to his thigh requiring stitches and, in addition to the doctors and nurses in the emergency room, we were also met by one of the hospital administrators who requested details of my friend’s medical insurance or a cash/credit card payment before any treatment could be given.

International travel health insurance is designed to provide medical cover for people traveling abroad and is an extremely flexible form of medical insurance cover. It frequently allows for daily rates (rates based on the number of days for which you will be traveling) and can normally be purchased without the need to answer health questions and regardless of age. Cover is also usually available on a worldwide basis or can be arranged to provide cover for travel to specific countries.

One particularly important thing to think about when purchasing international travel health insurance however is just where you are traveling to and what sort of medical care will be available to you on arrival. Against this background, you should ensure that any policy covers you for every eventuality including things like hospitalization, ambulance fees (including the possible need for an air ambulance) and, critically, cover for your return home should this prove necessary.

Remember also that, if you are holidaying as a family, then any plan should cover all members of your family and provide for such things as expenses should it be necessary for one or both parents to stay in hospital with a sick child or to accompany a child home by air ambulance.

One of the very last things that we ever think about happening when we travel abroad, particularly on vacation, is having an accident or being taken ill while we are away with anything more than a simple upset stomach. Nevertheless, accidents happen every day and sudden and serious illness can and does strike without any warning. Indeed, the chances of such an event are considerably raised when we find ourselves out of our usual environment, so why should we take the risk.

When it comes to purchasing international travel health insurance the principles are the same as those which apply to purchasing any other type of insurance. Take your time and shop around looking at plans from several different companies before making any decision. Consider only well know insurers, which have an international reputation, and read through the small print of any policy document before signing on the dotted line.

Finally, bear in mind that sorting out medical problems when you are ill and hundreds or thousands of miles from home is something which needs to be quick and simple. So, do not be tempted to cut corners when arranging your coverage! You might pay a little more than you would perhaps wish to but, if you have to use your policy, you will be extremely happy that you spent those few extra dollars.

Its often an after thought when booking a trip but good Travel
Insurance can be a life saver if things go wrong, especially if
you’re thousands of miles away from home.

At the very least a good travel insurance policy buys you a
little extra peace of mind. Or is it a false sense of security?
With travel insurance companies estimating that up to 10% of
claims are fraudulent, how can you be sure that any legitimate
claim you make gets paid?

TIP 1 – Take a good look before you buy

You might assume that there’s little difference between most
travel insurance policies. In reality, the quality of cover and
excesses you’ll have to pay can vary substantially. This might
not be a concern now but will be crucial should you make a claim.

Many disputes arise because people think they’re covered but
discover too late that they’re never were.

So before you simply opt for the cheapest premium, take a closer
look and check that you’re comparing like with like. In
particular, be sure to look at:

*The excess: confirm how much of any claim you would have to
pay. If the excess is ?50 per item that means you have to pay
the first ?50 of any claim for each item you are claiming for.

*The maximum you claim for individual items.

*What you’re not covered for such as pre-existing medical
conditions.

*The level of medical protection you have, particularly in
countries like the USA where medical costs can be higher.

*If you’re covered for lost or stolen cash and how much.

*If loss is covered as well as theft.

*If 24-hour emergency assistance is included or optional.

A comprehensive list of insurers can be found in the Travel Insurance Index.

TIP 2 – Take a copy policy document with you

A good travel insurance policy document will confirm the
procedures to follow in the event of a claim, what you are
covered for and who to call in an emergency.

TIP 3 – Disclose any medical conditions

Like any insurance policy, travel insurance is a contract
between you and the insurer based upon “utmost good faith”. This
requires you to disclose anything that may affect the acceptance
or terms of a policy, any exclusions or its price.

When completing the application form, be open and honest about
your medical history and any activities you’re likely to take
part in, whether you think they’re risky or not. If in doubt
declare it anyway and if possible keep a copy of the form.

TIP 4 – Document your valuable possessions

Take photo’s and keep receipts for expensive items such as
jewellery, cameras and designer clothing which you plan to take
with you on holiday.

TIP 5 – Report thefts or losses immediately

Any losses or thefts should be reported immediately to the local
police. Get an accident report number or similar documentary
proof that you’ve officially reported the loss and if you’re on
a package holiday, again quickly report the situation to the
hotel or travel company rep.

If your bag is lost, stolen or damaged at the airport, report it
immediately and get a receipt from the airline or baggage
handler.

TIP 6 – Be prepared for medical claims

Previous E111 forms have now been replaced by the European
Health Insurance Card which entitles the holder to free medical
treatment within Europe equivalent to that available on the NHS.
Application forms are available from Post Offices and should be
submitted at least ten days before you travel.

Before you leave check your policy document or contact the
insurer to confirm what precise steps your insurance company
requires you to take in a medical emergency.

TIP 7 – When you get home

If you intend to make a claim, check the small print and contact
your insurer. Gather and submit all supporting documentation via
recorded delivery (keeping copies for yourself) as evidence of
your claim. Submit receipts, photographs and copies of any
police or medical reports you have received.

Makes sure you keep copies all correspondence and make detailed
records of every phone call, including the name of the person
you spoke with and the time of your call.

TIP 8 – If your claim is refused?

Your claim could be rejected for many reasons. For example most
policies won’t cover alcohol-related incidents and like all
insurance you must take ‘reasonable’ care of your belongings.

The first step is to appeal against the decision providing
detailed and specific points for your arguement backed up by any
additional evidence. If you feel you have been poorly treated
you can refer your case to the Financial Ombudsman Service who
will assess your claim independently.
